Alumni of the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Chi should receive a capital campaign brochure in the mail this week.   The brochure contains details of the previously announced plans to build a new Sigma Chi Fraternity house on our current property at 2136 Lincoln Way.   If you did not receive a brochure in the mail please contact Corporation Board President Jon Hall at jonhall@betaomicronsig.org to verify your mailing address.    For online details about the project visit http://www.betaomicronsig.org/brochure or click on the Capital Campaign link on the menu.

We are also accepting donations on this website via PayPal.   We urge your thoughtful consideration for this project.  An investment in the future of Sigma Chi will ensure continued success at Iowa State University and provide a legacy upon which to build an even greater brotherhood.  With a portion of the project deemed non-educational in nature, there is a need for contributions that are not tax deductible to complete the project as envisioned.  Therefore, donors are being asked to make contributions to the Beta Omicron Corporation Board (non-tax deductible) on total gifts less than $15,000.   For those interested in giving online you can show your support for the project and for the Beta Omicron Chapter by clicking on the PayPal Donate button below and completing the donation form on the next page.

Beta Omicron Announces $2 Million Campaign to Build New Chapter House

Since 1916, the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Chi has provided a helping hand of brotherhood for the achievement of purposeful living, both in the college community and in the years that follow. And while the Beta Omicron experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the Chapter House, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our brothers and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals.

Several years ago it became clear to the corporation that our facility was no longer the beacon of brotherhood it once was, nor did it provide a competitive advantage to our undergraduate brothers as they attempted to recruit new members. These issues, coupled with the fact that several other fraternities (Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Beta Sigma Psi, etc.) and University residence halls had completed recent renovations, prompted the corporation to consider an update for our Chapter House.

Once the decision was made to update our house, we were faced with the question to renovate or rebuild. A feasibility study was conducted from February to May 2010 to gauge alumni interest in both options, and the feedback provided was overwhelmingly in favor of building a new facility. With this input, BSB Design, a Des Moines-based architectural firm, was engaged and a design was put forth detailing the future construction of a new Beta Omicron Chapter House.

In conjunction with this building project, it is with great pride that we announce the Pride in Our Past, Securing Our Future campaign. Initial commitments from loyal alumni now total $1,009,450. This early support is indicative of the lifelong importance of our experiences as Sigma Chis. While this is a great start, it will take the generous support of every alumnus to reach our goal and make this project a reality. A top-quality facility will honor our Chapter’s rich history and help to position us once again as a premier fraternity at Iowa State University.

As we formally announce our vision for the future of Sigma Chi at Iowa State University, we need your generous support as never before. In the coming weeks, you will receive additional information detailing the house project and the ways in which you can help. Remember, each of us benefited from the generosity, work, and sacrifice of the Sigs who came before us and now we have the opportunity to extend that tradition. For all who enjoyed the brotherhood and camaraderie of Beta Omicron, and for all of us whose family, social lives, and careers have benefited from our membership in the fraternity, it is time to preserve our legacy and secure the future of Sigma Chi at Iowa State University.

Significant Sig Dave Speer Banquet Weekend

Share/Save/Bookmark

What an amazing weekend for the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Chi!

On Friday September 30th, we held a banquet to honor our latest Significant Sig, Dave Speer. With about 150 in attendance, this included over 80 Sigma Chi alumni, undergrad members and current pledges, as well as wives of the alumni and families of the undergraduate chapter. Thanks to Rick Burnett to planned the banquet.

Saturday was the tailgate in the Jack Trice parking lot. Again, attendance was great and the food that Randy and Bev Hight prepared was amazing. It was another great opportunity for catching up with old friends and making new one.

Thanks to everyone else that helped with the weekend!
