It
is with great pleasure that the Corporation Board announces the events
to honor our most recent Significant Sig, David Speer, Chairman and CEO
of Illinois Tool Works. Illinois Tool Works is a diversified global manufacturer of engineered products and specialty systems that in 2010 reported revenue of $15.9B.
We
will honor David and his wife Barbara over the weekend of September 30 –
October 2, 2011. The itinerary for the weekend will be as follows:
Friday, September 30, 2011 Gateway Hotel and Conference Center
6pm-7pm Cocktail Hour hosted by the Corporation Board
7pm-9pm Dinner (price per person not to exceed $40)
9pm-10pm After dinner drinks (Cash Bar)
Saturday, October 1, 2011 Football game- Iowas State versus University of Texas. David
and Barbara will be the guests of Fred Kammeier, Class of ’58, and his
wife Ruth. Because game time will not be announced until we get closer
to the date, it will be hard to schedule this day too far in advance.
Also since alcohol is no longer allowed in the common areas of the
Chapter House, there will be a tailgate party hosted by alumni prior to
the game in the stadium parking lot, with more details to follow. The
active Chapter will also host a pre-game and/or post-game meal in honor
of David depending on game time.
Sunday, October 2, 2011 Individually arranged breakfast gatherings and getaway.
This
weekend is also Parents Weekend at Iowa State so those who are planning
on attending should not waste time securing football tickets and hotel
rooms. At last inquiry, there were still rooms available at the Gateway
Hotel and Conference Center which is where Friday’s dinner will be held
and is also within walking distance to the stadium. Because it is a
football weekend, we are not able to book blocks of rooms. Please visit www.iowahotels.org to inquire on hotels in Ames. Please visit www.cyclones.com for information regarding football tickets.
We
look forward to seeing many of you back in Ames to honor David,
especially guys from the 1970’s who knew and went to school with David.
